Helping End Hunger During COVID-19: Brookfield Logistics Raises Just Under $45,000 With A Cause for Caring

We are proud of Brookfield’s global efforts to affect positive change in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is one story in a series of blogs highlighting the various global campaigns and how they made a difference.

In response to the pandemic, Brookfield Properties – Logistics raised an amazing amount in a month-and-a-half towards charities mainly focused on ending hunger in Atlanta and Texas. This was part of Brookfield’s A Cause for Caring campaign, which empowered team members to support causes of their choice while Brookfield Properties – Logistics matched their donations 2:1. The match portion of the donation was directed to local causes providing vital support for people most impacted by COVID-19.

“We are a small but mighty team of about 30 in Brookfield Properties – Logistics, and I am really proud of how our team was able to rally and mobilize during this campaign.said Allison Hsu, Office Manager with Brookfield Properties – Logistics.

The Brookfield Properties – Logistics team currently operates in four offices (New York, NY, Atlanta, GA, Los Angeles, CA, and Dallas, TX) and, since 2017, has added more than $2.1 billion to its U.S. Logistics Portfolio.

Allison was very involved in their campaign, and spoke to how wonderful it was to connect and come together with the various Brookfield global teams to do good in our communities.

“It is fantastic to see the scale of philanthropy that we have engaged in, and how we are so focused on giving back. That’s one of the things that I love most about working here.” she said.

The two featured causes chosen by the Brookfield Properties – Logistics team were the North Texas Food Bank, which is located in Dallas, and the Giving Kitchen in Atlanta. Both featured causes focus on ending hunger in the United States. The North Texas Food Bank helps distribute donated, purchased, and prepared foods through a network of more than 200 partner agencies in 13 Texas counties. The Giving Kitchen in Atlanta provides financial assistance and support services for food service workers, who are some of the most hardworking and vulnerable members of the community. Brookfield Properties – Logistics has a significant and growing presence in both Dallas and Atlanta, which is why they wanted to focus their efforts in these locations.

“We witnessed a lot of engagement when the campaign kicked off. There was recognition that this was a great way for team members to give back while furthering their impact in the community through the 2:1 matching program,” said Allison. She mentioned that some of the other causes that team members donated to included charities focused on ending homelessness and cancer support.

“I personally feel that I am in a good situation given the pandemic. There are so many people losing their jobs and many are turning to living on the streets. I live in Downtown Los Angeles and I see this daily, and it breaks my heart,” said Allison.

Her personal #CauseforCaring was a charity that provides shelter to homeless veterans called New Directions for Veterans. Allison reinforced that she feels very grateful to be able to give back during this time.

“Throughout the campaign it’s been enlightening to learn about everyone’s different experiences in giving. It really reinforces how much we are trying to come together and help, and how every little bit is valuable,” she said. “Just the fact that we are engaging in this global campaign is amazing. Well done everyone!”
